Cleft Heart Back (’99)

I’ve sewn my cleft heart back
from two pieces to one
too many times along the same cut track

I’ve sewn it with wire and tape
and fixed it firm with drywall paste

It will hold like a poor man’s glue
this one held heart shape
made from more than two

Within the low thumping the listener can derive the formula
made secret by the rib-mute drone
the anti-dote to alleviate these tied together sacks
of the forever repetition only they know
